Update on Merged!

Recently, I’ve been playing Merged! a lot.  One mystery that I have not solved: after playing a game, coins are awarded.  But what’s the formula for that?
Another mystery has been solved.  How many points does one get when merging three 4′s, three 5′s, three 6′s and three M’s at the same time.
Look at the two images above: I had 4′s, 5′s, 6′s & M’s set up. I got a 4. This led to 1588 points.
My high score is now 13,000 which places me at 57 on the Leaderboard.!/id1055672607?mt=8

Tapes – update

Yohei Sato contacted me  2 days ago with the exciting news that there are 36 new levels of his puzzle app game Tapes. I dropped everything to solve them. I got stuck on a few levels and thought that they were impossible. But I prevailed. Such a good game!

Update on Value Maximum from Loyal Blog Follower Joel

I have something to add to your new blog entry about Value Maximum.
This is a quite interesting game with unique rules. I haven’t figured it out to 100%, but I think I understand the most of it.
Here are some screenshots of the tutorial.
You have to paste numbers from 1 to 4 on the grid. If there are two equal numbers in the same row or column, the numbers (and stars) between them will be added to one number, which appears at the place you have pasted your number before. The other part of the pair of numbers becomes a star. And if there are two stars in a row/column the numbers between them will be added in the same way as before (like the pair of numbers).
After pasting a number on the grid, you are allowed to move one number to a star next to it.
The game ends, when the score gets higher than the sum of the numbers (on the whole grid).
I hope, you can understand my explanation. ;-) With this I reached a score of 73, which places me on rank 4 on the leaderboard.
By the way: I have send you a friend request on Gamecenter. I would be happy to have you on my contact list. :-)

Logisquares: update

iPad Screenshot 1           iPad Screenshot 4

Every so often I have to spring-clean my ipad and delete old puzzle games to make room for new ones. Logisquares was a recent victim. However, before I did that, I decided to complete all 64 levels. I only needed to do 5 more. Once you get the hang of the game, they go pretty fast. But, those last ones I had to do very slowly & carefully. Read my old review.

Stickets: update

Good news and bad news about the point scoring puzzle app game Stickets.

You may recall that I became the second highest scorer of Stickets.

My first blog entry:

I showed the game to my father last year and he’s been hooked. He plays the game very slowly and super carefully.  When he’s in a jam, he puts it down for a few days until he’s got 100% concentration.

About 5 months ago, my father got a good start. He’s been on that 1 game, still alive and kicking, all this time.  A few days ago he overtook me and became the #2 high scorer.  Would he overtake the #1 scorer?

Tragedy struck: while recharging his ipad, the program did not save his game. Very mysterious and unfortunate.

I told him to download Folt and give it a try.

Threes! Update

iPhone Screenshot 5
Hello loyal puzzle app blog readers,
above is the game that I’m obsessed over. I told myself that I would stop when I got to the 1536 tile.  After playing for 3 months, I finally got it and got a score of 62,000.  However, I’m still playing it. I got another 1536 tile. Now I’m gunning for the 3072 tile.  Crazy!
This blog will get its 500,000 hit today!  If it’s you, take a screen shot and email it to me. My last name AT Mobile computer users: sometimes the hit counter does not show up on your device. Oh well.

Threes! Final update on this puzzle app game for iphone, ipad

Puzzle App Fans,

you may have noticed that I’ve slowed down a bit in my reviews of new puzzle app games for the iphone, ipad. The simple reason is that I’ve been completely addicted to Threes!  I gave myself a goal: to get a tile of 3072. I achieved the smaller tile 1536 about 10 times.

When I look at the Leaderboard, it seems like everyday people are scoring the 3072 tile – and beyond. Who are these people? Do they have the same genetics as us mortals?

Last night I got my final 1536 tile – with plenty of extra room. I then played it slowly and carefully. I even took a break. Unfortunately I did not get good + tiles, the tiles that are not 1, 2 or 3.

The only way to cure this addiction is to delete it. Already I feel better.

Number Painting: update

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 5

About 2 months ago, I became obsessed with Number Painting a free puzzle app game for iphone, ipad:

A few days ago I completed all 600 levels. Crazy, I know. Having done thousands of these types of topology puzzles, I found most of the levels not too hard. But every so often a level would have me stumped for days and weeks. The last 100 levels I did in about 2 hours, on a plane ride.

So yes, I really like this game. However, at the moment, it’s not possible to go back and redo any level at all. Unless I delete the program & then reinstall it.

Merged! Another Update: Big Surprise

Last month I reported on the 2 before/after images here. Merging three 4′s, 5′s, 6′s and M’s yielded 1588 points.  At the time I assumed that would be the highest possible point combination.  I was very wrong.

A few days ago something new turned up.  It didn’t even occur that this could happen, or I would have taken before/after screen shots. I had another combo lined up: two 1′s, two 2′s, two 3′s, and two 4′s. An empty space would connect them all. I got a single 1 and placed it in the center. As expected, it made the other 1′s a set of three and they morphed into a single 2, which merged with the other 2′s….you get the idea.

Here’s what’s unexpected. Below everything were two 5′s. The 4′s turned into a 5 and then merged with the 5′s underneath to form a single 6.  That 5-plex combo yielded over 5000 points.  Which makes me wonder what would have happened had there been two other 6′s nearby.

Folt: update

iPhone Screenshot 2

It’s taken me a while, but I have finally finished all 175 levels of FOLT. This game is not for everybody because there’s an element of luck involved. Regarding my high score on the Endless mode, others have surpassed me and now I’m down to 12th place or so.
