Domino Drop: point scoring puzzle app game for iphone, ipad

Click to zoom  iPhone Screenshot 2

David Cole, Loyal Blog Follower, told me about Domino Drop, a point scoring puzzle game.

Since the early 80′s I’ve never like Tetris and Domino Drop reminds me of it. However, it’s very different. The objective is to match 2 or more tiles to score points. Of course, those tiles disappear.
Scoring System: if you get 2 tiles of any number, you’ll score 100 points for each tile. But it gets more interesting.
Pay attention here: if you get  a chain reaction, the points will accumulate exponentially.
Look at the second to last image. That came from a game I was playing. I moved the 4/5 to the third column.

The 4′s gave me 200 points (100 each). Ho hum.
The subsequent 5′s gave me 1000 points (500 each). Hmmm.
When the 5′s disappeared, it freed the 6.
The 6′s gave me 2000 points (1000 each). Oh Yeah.
When the bottom 6 disappeared, it freed the 2.
The 2′s gave me 4000 points (2000 each). Now we’re talking.
That freed up the 4 in the 3rd column.
The 4′s then yielded 8000 points (4000 each). Wow.
[Also, the 3's merged for another 4000 points (2000 each). This happened at the same time as the 2's merging, so the scoring stayed consistent.]
Total: 19,200 points for one move. Examine the last photo to see the final result of that one move.
My high score is 133,800 which places me at 709 out of 18,000 players.
As with most point scoring puzzle app games, there is an element of luck.

One More Line: free point scoring reflex game for iphone, ipad

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 4

One of my students recently told me about One More Line: a game that’s cool, difficult, colorful and somewhat addictive. The game starts with your man (the rainbow line) traveling straight ahead. You must avoid the objects by circling around them and then release at the right tangent point and not crash into a wall or object.

One More Line is quite popular. But it needs to be improved. For example, it moves too fast. It should really start off slowly. The point scoring system is based on how long you survive. My high score is only 21, which I think represents only 10.5 seconds. Something silly: the one’s look like 7′s.

One More Line is free and comes with ads. Give it a shot. And if you end up succeeding with a high score, let me know.

Binary – The Game is a point scoring game. You are given 60 seconds to create binary numbers – of the same color.
The direction you swipe is very important. 11101 is a larger number than 10111.
According to the leaderboard, I’m 98 out of only 328 players.

Black Boxes: free point scoring puzzle app game for iphone, ipad

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 2

If you’ve been following this blog, you know that I like clever point scoring games that contain a puzzling element.

Black Boxes comes from Kevin McLean and Konrad Bajtyngier. It’s quite good.  First, combine the pink box – two at a time – to create 1 red box.  Combine 2 red boxes to form 1 Black Box.

Next, combine 2 light blue boxes to make 1 dark blue box. Then 2 blue boxes to make 1 Black Box.

When 3 Black Boxes are lined up, you score points. If you can get a super cluster of Black Boxes, you’ll score major points.

There are 2 versions of this game: the first: you are given a time limit.  The second, more cerebral version, you get 40 moves.

My high score is around 4600. I like this game.

Numoo: free point scoring puzzle app

iPhone Screenshot 1

Numoo is a point scoring tilt/dodge game. You are the circle and can slide up and down the rope. As the numbers slide in from the right and left, you must crash into them only if they are higher than you.
It’s not terribly good but it’s actually hard to put down. In terms of the Leaderboard, there are 264 players and I’m #19 at the moment.

N16 – point scoring puzzle app game

iPhone 스크린샷 2  iPhone 스크린샷 5

Happy New Year Puzzlers!
Sang Moon Joo has recently published a bunch of interesting puzzle games. N16 is a point scoring game with a lot of potential.

Combine 1′s to form a single 2.  Combine 2′s to form a single 3.  The game ends when there are no adjacent matching numbers.

How the scoring works

2 3 4 5 6
1 2 4 6 8 10
2 4 8 16 32 64
3 8 16 32 64 128
4 16 32 64 128 256
5 32 64 128 256 512
6 64 128 256 512 1,024
7 128 256 512 1,024 2,048
8 256 512 1,024 2,048 4,096
9 512 1,024 2,048 4,096 8,192
10 1,024 2,048 4,096 8,192 16,384
11 2,048 4,096 8,192 16,384 32,768

The numbers on the left represent the actual tiles.  The numbers at the top indicate how many matching tiles will be connected. For example, if you have three 6′s lined up, you score 128. Interestingly, that’s the same score as six 3′s.

I’d really like to see a leaderboard for N16. Right now my best score is 11,834.

I’ve spent a lot of time trying different strategies. There’s a certain amount of luck involved, as in many of the other point scoring puzzle apps listed below. But make no mistake: this is a game of skill.

Before I forget, I should mention that the new tiles added are done randomly. However, I have not figured out what the pattern is for the Highest Random Tile. For example, if the board has only 2′s & 3′s, it will not give me a 4 or even a 3.  When my highest tile was 11, I did see 6′s pop up. Not sure about 7′s.

If you manage to get a 12 or 13 tile, please take a screen shot and email me. Or leave a comment below.

NineOut II – point scoring puzzle app

Sandro Bagattini recently contacted me from Switzerland about his new puzzle app game NineOut II. You may recall that I was a huge fan of the original version NineOut.

NineOut II is similar. However, there’s no time limit. Also, after every move you make, a new number or shaded number is added to the board. The red square moves around randomly and indicates where the next new number will be added. If you survive 15 moves, you will advance to the next level. However, at the next level, more numbers will be added.

It’s actually difficult to describe this game. Suffice it to say, if you’ve played the original, then it’s clear (I hope!)

My high score in the original is 301,000, which puts me 3rd out of only 2000 players.  In the past week, only 12 people have played it. Such is the life of a great game that’s been buried.

On NineOut II, there are only 4 players and I’m #2 at 30,458.

Point to Point: free puzzle app game for iphone, ipad

iPhone Screenshot 1

Point to Point comes from Emre Dagli. Here is his description of the game: I am so excited and glad to introduce an unexplored puzzle game ‘Point to Point’.

‘This game is based on planar connected graph under Mathematics.

Simply there are points which have the connection counts around them. You are supposed to connect points without intersection. On some levels you will face with movable point(s); in this case it may be hard to find the correct position.

‘Point to Point’ may have multiple solutions. You can gain more stars after each level, if you find the solution in less number of tries.’

iPhone Screenshot 2

We’ve seen the 2 elements Hashi & Untangle of this puzzle as separate, so combining them is a very nice novelty.

I solved the first pack of 15 puzzles and enjoyed them.  Point to Point is definitely worth your time.

MonoMerge: free point scoring puzzle app

iPhone 스크린샷 1       iPhone 스크린샷 2

MonoMerge is a point scoring puzzle app game. The object is to connect adjacent tiles – 1 at a time – if they are identical. For example: two 4′s will merge to form a single 5.

MonoMerge looks like Threes! and 2048. It’s really not because all the tiles stay in place, except for the merging ones.

Blank spaces are filled with only 1′s & 2′s.

This is where the game should be more interesting: the grid should be 5×5 and the blanks should be replaced with 1′s, 2′s & 3′s.

The highest tile I got was 10. My high score is 3060 which places me 8th out of only 45 players.

MonoMerge is a decent game and should definitely be play-tested. Can Gulbol 제작 is the author.

SubaraCity: point scoring puzzle game for iphone, ipad

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 2

The object in SubaraCity is to increase your city’s population by merging smaller houses into bigger houses and really big houses into skyscraper apartment buildings.

Look at the bottom of the first image. See the brown apartments? The one on the left is an ’8′ and the one on the right is a ’9′. Merge them to form a 10. Once a building becomes a 10, it then turns white.

Suppose you combine 10′s: two of them will form a yellow 11.  However, you cannot combine any building over 10.  The key strategy to scoring BIG, is to get a super cluster of 10′s and then merge them all at once.

SubaraCity was created by Ryuji Kuwaki. A typical game for me is getting 2,000,000 points and that takes about 15-20 minutes.  My high score is 32,927,440 which ranks me  at 4268 out of 144,509  players.  I got by combining fifteen 10′s. It led to a level 24 building.  That particular game took over an hour.
So now I’m trying to beat my top score. Extremely difficult. Here’s what’s been happening: I get a cluster of twelve 10′s and then am forced to merge them. The resulting 21 building (I know – why isn’t it a 22 building?) becomes a dead space on the board. So I end up restarting the game. Which makes me despair a bit.

SubaraCity is in the running for a PAGY Award. (Nominations: check back on December 30th.)
