Path Puzzles: puzzle app game for iphone, ipad

Path Puzzles is a puzzle app game that comes from Rod Kimball. You may recall that Rod wrote a book of these.  http://pathpuzzles.com/    Click here to read that blog entry.

Look at the second image.  See the 4? That means that the path must traverse 4 of the squares. In this case, 2 below (separated, one on top, one on the bottom) and the two squares to the right.

Now Path Puzzles is available as an iphone, ipad puzzle game app.  If a number turns green, you have fulfilled that number. If a number is red, you’ve covered too many squares.

The first 20 rooms are free.  Of those, I’ve solved 16.

Loyal Blog Readers: do me a favor and download this. Besides being very good, Rod is a friend of mine.

Sokoban Evolution: puzzle app for iphone, ipad

iPhone Screenshot 1      iPhone Screenshot 3

My friend and Loyal Blog Follower  David Cole recently contacted me about Sokoban Evolution which he insists is quite good. Having solved thousands of sokoban levels, I was not itching to try it. But I trust David!

There’s good and bad in this puzzle app game.

The Positives:
I like the submarine, helicopter and lunar rover pushing the blocks. Good graphics. Playful.
Something new: I think this is the first sokoban puzzle which has some targets hidden by blocks. In particular, I thought level 30 was quite challenging because there were only 2 targets and finding them was a preliminary challenge. I doubt whether anyone could solve that on a first attempt. Unless by pure luck.
The more interesting of the 54 levels have specific targets for specific tiles.

I downloaded the free version which offers 36 puzzles. Solved them all then paid $ .99 or $ 1.99 for the next 18 levels.

The Negative:
The author, Grettel Monteagudo Garc’ia, has taken some liberties. As I said at the top, I’ve solved countless sokoban levels in other games over the years. It’s impossible to remember each one. However, Grettel has copied levels 37, 44, and 51. Howe do I know? Because I struggled on those mightily and had to truly study them. I believe those came from BoxWorld.

Level 54, I’m fairly certain, is original and good for Grettel. Grettel, don’t be lazy! Remove those that aren’t original and add new ones.

Pepe Porcupine
Sokoban Cargo
Push Box Sokoban
Push Around
Boxed In – loved this.
Pengu Push
BoxWorld – awesome. I still remember struggling through levels 26 and 35 for days.
Fireman Arcade
Paper & Light
Square Push Square
Jewel Keeper – the only puzzle app that needlessly inserted a beautiful woman.

Cubecode: free puzzle app game for iphone, ipad

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 3

Cubecode comes from Montgomery Guilhaus. It’s a point scoring game.  You must swap pairs of cubes in order to get like cubes in a column.  When that happens, you score points and gain time.  I’m not really sure how the scoring system works. But my high score is 120 and that game lasted maybe 1 minute. Think fast and move your finger faster.

Montgomery’s description: ‘The aim of the game is to swap different cubes by dragging them around the screen and completing a column with the same colour. This has to be done before the timer runs out, but do not worry, the timer will get faster and faster and faster. And just to be nice, the shapes on the screen will also change, becoming more complex as time goes on.’

BlockSwipe: puzzle app game for iphone, ipad

About 2 weeks ago I saw BlockSwipe as a new puzzle app and thought to myself ‘looks like another swipe puzzle’. I ignored it. Image 1 looks a lot like past puzzles, which are usually quite good.

Then about a week ago, I got a note from the developers asking me to give it a serious test run.  Okay, I thought.

Objective: You are the blue square and must collect the yellow stars and land at the bright yellow square.

The first 5 or 6 levels – typical.  After that, things got very interesting. Besides finding the correct route to pick up the stars and then end at the big yellow square, you must dodge fast moving gray blocks.

There’s more!  Look at image #2.  See the green square? If you attempt to crash into it, you will bounce back rapidly.

Look at the third image. See the red star in the bottom left? It turns on/off every 1.5 seconds. You will have to traverse it. The white blocks are ice. You can crash into them once and they will crack. The second time, they will disintegrate.

The Red Squares (no image here) make you red-hot. If you touch another red square, you will burn up. Before you touch another red square, you will need to cool off by hitting an ice block.

I completed 25 levels perfectly. I was so proud, I wrote to the developers asking them to inform me right away of future levels.  I didn’t notice the other 125 levels! Since then I’ve completed about 130 levels. I can’t stop playing this game.

I love this game! Definitely one of the Best Puzzle app Games in 2013.

BlockSwipe is very reminiscent of The World’s Hardest Game.  I played that about 5 or 6 years ago and gave up after level 25 or so.

Sudoku Adventure: puzzle game app for iphone, ipad

iPhone Screenshot 1
Scott Maramo recently contacted me about his new puzzle app game Sudoku Adventure. Needless to say, it’s Sudoku!  However, I must say, there’s a funny animation at the beginning that’s kind of cute.

Having done thousands of sudokus, I’m kind of tired of the genre.  Sorry Scott!

Continuity 2: puzzle app game for iphone, ipad

iPhone Screenshot 1

Continuity 2 came out 4 or 5 years ago, but I’m only now getting around to playing it.

iPhone Screenshot 2

It’s the sequel to the online version (link  below).

iPhone Screenshot 3

Your Man must run left & right and pick up keys and yellow circles before reaching the door.  Where it gets interesting is when Your Man gets to the edge of a tile. You will have to rearrange tiles to resume your path. Where it gets extra fun is when Your Man leaps into the abyss.

There are 50 levels spread out over 6 ‘Worlds’. I have a feeling that 2 of these are impossible.  On one of them, I’m trying to make a leap from a small cliff and keep crashing into a spiked wall.

The original version was an online puzzle game and was simply brilliant.

7! – Sevens Decipher Falling in Block: free puzzle app game for iphone, ipad

I got an email to review 7!s Sevens Decipher…. from Allen Hu. I know many readers of this puzzle app blog like chain reaction point scoring puzzle games.  I’ve played it, but still cannot figure out what’s going on.

Sudoku Mine: puzzle app game for iphone, ipad

iPhone Screenshot 1
Sudoku Mine comes from Stanley Lam. Stanley has produced many good free puzzle app games the past 2 years. I can’t keep up!
Sudoku Mine is a mixture of Minesweeper and Sudoku. It’s closer to Minesweeper.  The object of Sudoku Mine: place 3 flags to represent bombs.  Each row, column and square region must have exactly 3 bombs.
There are 50 free levels ranging in difficulty from beginner to extreme.  I did 49 of them and am stuck.
Fabulous, fast & fun. I bought the full version for $ 1.99.  Of course, I have to keep play testing other puzzle apps.  The $ 1.99 was my way of saying thanks for 3 hours of entertainment.

Opposites Unite: free puzzle app game for iphone ipad etc

iPhone Screenshot 2  iPhone Screenshot 3

Victor Twigge’s Opposites Unite is one of those: ‘slide all the tiles as far as they can’ and slide them all together at the same time. The objective is to unite the plus and minus symbols.

Note: the blue squares are locked in place. The green squares will travel and will help/hinder you.  Of course, there are some wormholes. In order for the plus or minus signs to use a wormhole, it must land on the ENTER square, not merely pass over it.

Most interesting: you can’t tell at the beginning where the signs will unite.

There are 50 levels and at the moment I’m on level 35.

Line Rush! – free puzzle app game for iphone, ipad

iPhone Screenshot 2                  iPhone Screenshot 3

Line Rush is a good reflex game to ward off Alzheimer’s. Colored bars scroll down from the top. Tap the match color on the bottom of the screen to knock out the lowest bar.

Here’s what I particularly like about Line Rush! – it starts out very slowly and the speed builds up very slowly.  My high score is 365.
