Ballz by Ketchapp FREE!

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 2

Last week I saw somebody playing Ballz game on the subway.  Coincidentally, a student recommended it to me the next day. The game is reminiscent of Breakout, which came out in the 1970′s. Read this article from Wikipedia.

iPhone Screenshot 4  iPhone Screenshot 5

So what’s different?
1. Each box gets a number. The box will disappear when it’s hit that number of times.
2. Look at the first image.  See the white dot on top? If you can collect it, that will increase the number of ballz that you will fire in the next round.
3. I haven’t figured out what the green dots are for.

I’ve played this about 25 times.  My high score is 99. That ranks me somewhere around 4 million out of 6 million on the Leaderboard.

Good game. It’s free. The graphics are outstanding. But I will not get addicted to this. Ketchapp has a string of good games!

Tap the 3s: Number Puzzle Game of Math by Hyemin Chung FREE

iPhone Screenshot 1 iPhone Screenshot 2

Tap the 3s: Number Puzzle Game of Math comes from Hyemin Chung.
The game tests how fast you can identify multiples of 3 & 7.  You are given a 3×3 grid and must tap those numbers as fast as possible. If you tap a tile that’s not a multiple, you lose points and time.

iPhone Screenshot 3  iPhone Screenshot 4

If you can complete 20 3×3 grids within the given time, (I think it’s 90 seconds), you’ll get bonus points.

This game has only 63 people on the Leaderboard. At the moment, I’m #3.

It’s free.
Test your math reflexes.

Factors Game by Michael Nitowski FREE

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 2

Factors Game comes from Michael Nitowski.  Took me a while to get the idea.

iPhone Screenshot 3  iPhone Screenshot 4

From Michael’s webpage:

Can You Get to 1?

With a twist on the basic rules of division, Factors Game is a fun math game designed to be easy to learn but increasingly challenge your mental math skills as you progress through the levels.

The Goal

Move your number down through the number board to get as close to 1 as possible in the least amount of moves.
But be warned, some levels may not be solvable with a 1! Your overarching goal is to keep your ending average as low as possible.

The Controls

  • Swipe or type left and right to set up your next move.
  • Swipe or type down to make a move.
  • Swipe or type up to start the level over.

The Rules

  • If your number encounters a factor, it will be divided by that factor.
  • All other numbers will add to your number.

While You’re Here …

Did you know that Factors Game is a free and open source game with the source code available here? It is. I promise. And it is licensed under the MIT License!

My thoughts
1. Look at the first image. Bring the 1 down onto the 7.  Your new number is 8. Then bring it down on 8 and you win.
2. Look at the second image.  Bring the 2 over the 14 to make 16, then go down on 16.
3. Here’s what I don’t like: you can bring your number down each row randomly, without thinking and somehow proceed to the next level. There should be a fail/redo component.
4. Some levels cannot be reduced to 1. Interesting.
5. No idea how many levels there are.  I’ve done about 50.

7! – Sevens Decipher Falling in Block: free puzzle app game for iphone, ipad

I got an email to review 7!s Sevens Decipher…. from Allen Hu. I know many readers of this puzzle app blog like chain reaction point scoring puzzle games.  I’ve played it, but still cannot figure out what’s going on.

MindRoller by Christian Nadeau Free

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 3

MindRoller comes from Christian Nadeau. It’s one of the games where ‘all the pieces move together’ and the objective of course is to get all the squares to their targets.

There are 96 levels and I’ve solved about 55 of them. MindRoller is certainly not a new concept. But what I like about this game is that the levels are very well designed and the grid is so large.

What I don’t like is that you need to get 3 stars for every level in order to advance.

Similar games (this list is incomplete):

Movez  Pretty much the same as Block Mania but it has 1680 levels. I’ve solved 592 of them. That’s probably enough.
Frozen Ice Cubes  What’s different: there’s a point of ‘no return’.
Escapology, reviewed by Nicola Salmoria. He told me about this game ages ago. I played it and enjoyed it, but never blogged about it.
Block Mania Similar to Movez
Move Puzzle – A Funny Strategy Game, Matching Tiles Within Finite Moves
Zink
Vubu What’s different: the vubu men have different powers. Very sophisticated, very intelligent. Possibly the very best in this genre.
Move: A Brain Shifting Game

Sudoku Spin by Bathroom Break Games LLC FREE

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 2

The smart folks at Bathroom Break Games LLC have produced their first game called Sudoku Spin.

iPhone Screenshot 3  iPhone Screenshot 4

The object is to get each ring and each sector (see the third image) to get the numbers 1-8.

Critical: each ring can spin. By my calculations, there are 64 permutations of arranging just the rings. Fortunately, if there is a conflict, it’s highlighted in red.

I’ve tackled about 20 of the easy levels.

Numerous times: I’ve rotated the rings, then started filling in the grid, only to discover that my rings were wrong. Back to square one. Still, I wonder if there are multiple solutions in terms of ring rotation.

In a regular sudoku grid, every single square must be one and only a distinct number.  That’s not the case with Sudoku Spin. If a sector is missing only a 3 and a 7, and they both land on the same ring, then the order is not important.

The graphics are very good.

Zame by Squadventure FREE

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 2

Zame is a reflex testing puzzle app game. The object is to quickly tap the mirror image of the shaded figures.

iPhone Screenshot 3  iPhone Screenshot 4

What’s interesting about this game: the hexagonal layout. I think that’s why I can’t just keep going.  Also, the mirror line alternates between horizontal and vertical. My high score, at the moment, is 19.
I emailed George Faraj, who made Zame, and his high score is 25.

Good game, good fun. Hey, maybe playing these types of games will help ward off Alzheimer’s.

FREE.

Opposites Unite: free puzzle app game for iphone ipad etc

iPhone Screenshot 2  iPhone Screenshot 3

Victor Twigge’s Opposites Unite is one of those: ‘slide all the tiles as far as they can’ and slide them all together at the same time. The objective is to unite the plus and minus symbols.

Note: the blue squares are locked in place. The green squares will travel and will help/hinder you.  Of course, there are some wormholes. In order for the plus or minus signs to use a wormhole, it must land on the ENTER square, not merely pass over it.

Most interesting: you can’t tell at the beginning where the signs will unite.

There are 50 levels and at the moment I’m on level 35.

Super Swipes by Ilya Metelyov FREE

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 2

Super Swipes comes from Ilya Metelyov.  It’s a point scoring puzzle app game.  The object is to slide all the tiles in any direction, in order to get a group of 4 or more of the same color. They disappear – poof – and you get points.  Sometimes extra points when multiple groups are formed.

iPhone Screenshot 4  iPhone Screenshot 5

Interesting:
1. Look at the second image. See the blue square inside the red square? After the red is scored, the blue will take its place.

2. The rainbow tile, not shown in the images, acts as a wild card.

3. The graphics are very good and the game is free.

I’ve only played the game 3 times and my high score is 584, which places me #1 on the leaderboard. Sounds impressive but there are only 15 other players.

DangoStack by daoxiang lin FREE

iPhone Screenshot 1

DangoStack comes from Daoxiang Lin. The object is to get Your Man, the bright pulsing bubble, to the target. Your Man can jump onto other bubbles and then travel together.

iPhone Screenshot 2

There are numerous features that add to the complexity:
1. Blue and Red circles open and close bridges.
2. The Number Tile: if it says 5, then you must land on it with 5 bubbles to open a bridge.
3. The Ice Field – there are no individual steps, just gliding to the end.
4. Arrows force movement.

iPhone Screenshot 4

I’m not crazy about the graphics. Nevertheless, this puzzle game is pretty good. Not impossibly hard, but hard enough.  Definitely worth your time.

At the moment, I’m stuck on level 55. There are 60 levels. The game is free and there are no ads.
