Color Square Puzzle Game: free puzzle app game for iphone, ipad

iPhone Screenshot 1   iPhone Screenshot 3
Miroslaw Zielinski has made a game very similar to Game About Squares.  His is called Color Square Puzzle Game. It may be a complete clone. It may be original.  I’m not sure.
There are 60 levels and I’ve been stuck on #25 for a while.

Description from the itunes store:
# How to Paint
Drag the colors and Fill in all the grid. Each color has different number of drag allowed. All the lines of paint cannot be crossed or dis-connected. Try to find a way to fill in the grid, with given colors and numbers connected with.
All you do is to find a path to fill in the grid with connected

Tom’s thoughts: this game is similar to a few other games. Unfortunately, I don’t remember those titles. I solve all 40 of the ‘hard’ 7×7 levels.  Not so hard. But still fun.

Dots Color Match – Tap & Connect Puzzle Game

iPhone Screenshot 2                       iPhone Screenshot 4

Alan Kong  has come up with an interesting test-your-reflexes game.  As the colored balls fall from the top, you must rotate your polygon by tapping and catch the red balls with the red side etc.

It’s a good game. But the speed picks up too quickly for me.  In any case, it’s another good game/exercise to ward off Alzheimer’s.

Color Shape Tile Puzzle: free puzzle app game for iphone, ipad

iPhone Screenshot 2              iPhone Screenshot 1

Nick Waters has produced a solid puzzle app game called Color Shape Tile Puzzle. The object is to place all the tiles onto the grid by following the rules from the first image. Essentially, either color matches or the shape matches.  It’s an interesting variation on the traditional edge-matching tile puzzles. (I have a friend who regularly attends the International Puzzle Party; he has an enormous collection of edge-matching puzzles.)

There are 4 levels of difficulty. The easiest uses a 4×4 grid, while the hardest uses a 7×7 grid. I’ve solved puzzles at each difficulty level.

The puzzles seem to be randomly generated each time. Which is good and bad. Good, if you want to keep playing this game forever. Bad, if you’re the type that wants a set of 50 or 100 levels and solve them all with a sense of accomplishment.

I like this concept. However, there are multiple solutions, which make the expert levels not that hard.

La Palette Color Ballz by Nadezhda Sidorova

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 5

La Palette Color Ballz comes from Nadezhda Sidorova. (I’ve always liked the name Nadezhda.) It’s a ‘match-3′ game.  There are hundreds of match-3 games.  The most famous: Bejeweled and Candy Crush.

I normally ignore match-3 games. But I decided to download this only because I love the icon.

The actual game itself is pretty good. First of all: colors mix. Second: the whites never match-up.
There are other elements, borrowed from Candy Crush, but that’s okay.

La Palette Color Ballz has a lot of charm.  There are 61 levels and at the end of each, you are rewarded with a quote. For example: don’t blame the rain, it can’t fall up.

Color 6 by Tigrido FREE

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 2

This past weekend I saw the image of Color 6 and just passed it by. Seemed like another ‘packing puzzle’ and I didn’t scrutinize this properly. Big thanks to Loyal Blog Follower David Cole for alerting me about this game. It’s seriously good.

iPhone Screenshot 3  iPhone Screenshot 4

Color 6 is a point scoring puzzle app. The object is to make perfect hexagons of a single color. Each one made is 1 point, then it disappears. I played this game 3 times last night. This morning I played it once and almost got to work late.

One feature I really like is the color-blind mode. I wish other games would adopt this idea.

My high score is 169. This places me in the middle of 55,000 people. The game came out last week. How did it get so popular? Maybe it was featured by the App Store.

It is possible to form 2 hexagons at the same time. If they overlap, only 1 point will be given.  If the 2 hexagons do not overlap, only 2 points are given.  I’m a bit mystified as to how so many people have scores in the thousands.

Warning: this game is very addictive.

Color Fence by McPeppergames

iPhone Screenshot 2  iPhone Screenshot 3

Do you remember the game Ins and Outs? Color Fence is essentially the same thing: create one loop where some tiles are ‘inside’ and the rest are ‘outside’.

I love the concept, but after you’ve done a 100 or so, they’re all too easy. But still fun.

I had some trouble with Color Fence in terms of the colors. The orange & red squares are too similar.

Even worse: I wasn’t able to figure out which colors should be inside and which outside. Look at image #1. In the top right corner are 3 colors. Are they supposed to all be in or all out? I’ve tried it both ways and neither worked consistently.  I think they’ve debugged this now.

Color Merge by ImpactBlue Studios FREE

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 2

Color Merge comes from ImpactBlue Studios. The object is to merge all the colors so the entire board ends up being 1 color which is specified at the top of the screen.

Look at the first image. Near the top you’ll see a small green dot in between the blue & yellow circles.  That means, first, that the circles can merge and second, that they will merge into green.

Seems kind of obvious except that red & yellow can never merge. It took me a while to figure the pattern out.  At the top are the 5 circles. A color cannot merge with its neighbors. But when it merges with the other 2 colors, the result will be the color in between.

For example: purple cannot merge with blue or red. When it merges with yellow, the result will be red. Not very intuitive. When purple merges with green, it will become blue.

Color Merge is a serious puzzle concept.  At the moment I’ve solved 18 levels. I’ll do more, but definitely not more than 50.

Color Labyrinth – A Smart Puzzle Like Sokoban 激ムズ完全思考型パズル:カラーラビリンス

iPhone スクリーンショット 1  iPhone スクリーンショット 2

Color Labyrinth – A Smart Puzzle Like Sokoban  adds some very good elements to the old concept of sokoban. The goal in each is to move/push the blocks and get to the exit.

iPhone スクリーンショット 3  iPhone スクリーンショット 4

1. Blocks that are the same color will merge. Sometimes that’s a good thing, other times not.
2.  The grid is white. Black squares will sometime have to be filled. If a square is marked with a green +, that means that if a green square is pushed onto it, it will be locked in place.

There’s a lot more to say about this game, but I’ll let you see for yourself.  It’s got everything: ‘aha’ moments, lots of levels etc.  I have not solved all the levels.

I’m not crazy about the graphics. But that’s okay. The content is what’s important. New elements are presented with easy levels and then things get gradually harder.

Color Combine Game by Sam Hogan FREE!

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 2

When I was about 4 years old, I was given a toy that fascinated me. There were 3 circular clear plastic sheets stapled together in the center. Each had 1 circle of color: red, blue and yellow. From that, I learned how to combine the colors to make green, purple and orange. Putting them altogether was some kind of brown.  Color Combine Game, from Sam Hogan, is a puzzle where the objective is to combine adjacent tiles into 1 big pile whose final color matches the background.

iPhone Screenshot 3  iPhone Screenshot 4

The first few levels are trivially easy. But then things get pretty tough. Getting the exact shade of pink or teal or cyan can be extremely tough.  My instinct is to just tap out all the permutations until I stumble on the right one.

At the moment, I’m stuck on level 19. According to the Leaderboard, there are not many other players.

I contacted Sam about the number of levels and he told me: it’s infinite.

Definitely interesting and hard.
