Ten monkey challenge by Miroslaw Zielinski

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 3

Ten monkey challenge comes from Miroslaw Zielinski. He’s been publishing a lot of puzzle app the past couple of years.  See list below.

The object in today’s game is to score point by placing tiles from the bottom to the grid and make 10 either horizontally or vertically.  At the beginning, all tiles are simply 1×1 and it’s easy.  Very rapidly, the tiles become 2×1 and 2×2 (minus 1 square).

A flaw in this game is when a 2×2 (minus 1 square) pops up with two 6′s and a 5. No matter how perfectly you have played the game, that tile signals the end is very imminent.

At the moment, there are just 11 players on the Leaderboard.  My score is 295, which I think is pretty good. But somebody has over 500, which I think is exceptional.

FERMAT – Challenge your limits of memory! Brain training game app

iPhone Screenshot 2

FERMAT – Challenge your limits of memory! Brain training game app‘ is the full title of this memory boosting game.

The objective is simple: memorize where all the number are.  Then, when you’re ready, the tiles are all turned over and you must identify where they are.

I’m on level 10 which has 14 numbers in a 4×4 grid.

10s Challenge – Hardest Game in The World: free puzzle-y type game for iphone, ipad

10s Challenge – Hardest Game in The World may or may not be the hardest game in town. But it is tough. You must drag the red circle to pick up the 3 yellow stars while avoiding the bouncing squares and the blue lines.  I got through 12 levels. I like this game, but that’s probably it for me.

Edges – A Puzzle Challenge by Clearly Puzzled Games LLC Free

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 2

Edges – A Puzzle Challenge is an Edge-Matching Puzzle.  The object is to rotate each square so that all the edges match.

You didn’t think the game was just going to be turning squares… did you?

  • Snowmen will give you hints. Sweet!
  • Ghosts will obscure your sight. Spooky!
  • Actors will turn squares themselves. Seriously?!

And more! We’ve got to keep a few cards up our sleeves…

I solved 19 levels. It’s certainly colorful and if you’ve never tackled this genre, give it a try.

Nixie – Challenge Your Brain: free puzzle app game for iphone, ipad

iPhone Screenshot 1 iPhone Screenshot 2

Nixie – Challenge Your Brain comes from Andrew Zaharek and Joshua Levesque.  It’s a free puzzle app game that took me extra time to understand.  It’s very similar to Akari, which is also known as Lighthouse.  I exchanged a few emails with Andrew & learned that he never knew about Akari. Weird: I solved all of the beginner levels, but didn’t really understand what I was doing!

iPhone Screenshot 3

You must place a circle that will light up the row and column and eventually get the whole board lit up.  Here are the key differences from Akari: a cluster of 3′s means that there will be 3 circles in total that will touch them. Also, those circles can be placed diagonally to a number.  One more rule difference: no circle can be placed in a field of nothingness. A circle must be next to a number.

There are about 130 levels.  I’ve solved all but 10. Right now I’m stuck on the hardest category #2. It’s a massive grid where one must use a certain amount of guess & check.

Something annoying: Nixie is free but there are video ads.  They pop up every 3 or 4 levels. Even more annoying, they can pop up when you want to clear the board by clicking refresh. Andrew informed me that they are going to make them less frequent. There’s also a time element to them.

Without a doubt, Nixie is the best game of the week and will certainly make the list of Best Puzzle Apps of 2014. It’s a pure puzzle.
Great job Andrew!

Frozen Ice Cubes Fall Strategy Challenge: free puzzle app game for iphone, ipad

iPhone Screenshot 3

Frozen Ice Cubes Fall Strategy Challenge is a deceptively good set of puzzles.  The object is to move one ice cube to one pail. The ice cubes can drop into the pails from the top or sideways – okay that’s a bit weird.  Ice cubes travel together – right, left, down, but never up.

Frozen Ice Cubes Fall Strategy Challenge reminds me of another outstanding puzzle app game: Vubu: http://gottasolveit.blogspot.com/2012/09/vubu-puzzle-app-for-iphone-ipad-review.html

This is the second time in recent memory that ice cubes have been used as a puzzle element: http://gottasolveit.blogspot.com/2013/02/puzzle-retreat-puzzle-game-app-for.html

Great feature of this game: each level can be solved at 3 modes: easy, medium, hard. Essentially, the easy modes allow you to solve the same puzzles with more moves.  Regardless, some of the puzzles are hard with an unlimited number of moves. Tricky is a better word.

There are 120 levels & I’ve done 63 so far.

Undone Panda has done a great job here with this puzzle game app.

Chisla – Math puzzle and brain teaser with cool arithmetic challenge by Anton Boyarkin

iPhone Screenshot 2  iPhone Screenshot 1

Chisla – Math puzzle and brain teaser with cool arithmetic challenge is a point scoring math puzzle app game.  The object is to tap on the numbers that add up to the target at the top center of the screen.

Here’s where it gets interesting.

In the Normal mode: tiles disappear when you use them. However, when the tiles in a single row are all used, new ones will pop up to replace them. You always need lots of numbers in this game.

In the Advanced mode: tiles can be used 3 times before disappearing.  Again, when all the tiles in a single row are gone, new ones will come to life.

I forgot to mention: there is a 15 second time limit.  Finding numbers that add up to 16 is fast and easy.  When 62 pops up and your numbers have dwindled, things get panicky.
There is a leaderboard.  At the moment, my scores are:
Normal: 43 which places me 144 out of 9,478 players.
Advanced: 66 which places me 23rd out of 1914 players.

1 to 25 Number Challenge: free puzzle app game for iphone, ipad

’1 to 25 Numbers Challenge’ comes from Peter Li. It is a game where you have 10 seconds to tap the numbers 1-25 in order. For each game, the numbers are scrambled. You can study them. As soon as you start, your time starts.

I’ve done all 25 in under 25 seconds a bunch of times.   This is fun, but once you’ve done it a few times, the novelty wears off. I think this game would be excellent for Alzheimer’s patients.  Keep the brain/finger connections sharp!

Queue Ball – Free Minimalist Puzzle Challenge by Digitype Agency Free

Queue Ball- screenshot thumbnail        Queue Ball- screenshot

Queue Ball – Free Minimalist Puzzle Challenge is the name of game. Do you remember Sequence Nine from a few months ago?  The two games are extremely similar, just different graphics.

Queue Ball- screenshot       Queue Ball- screenshot

The object is to get the ball – Your Man – to pick up the stars.  Look at the last image.  See the 4 empty squares on top? Those are the 4 steps for that problem and they will repeat over and over until the objective is met, or Your Man falls off the grid. You must choose which direction each step should be. The third image shows an example of the steps.

   Queue Ball- screenshot

I don’t know how many levels there are, but I’m stuck on level 25 or 26.  Good game.
